Over the Christmas break I built an IP Engineering FR Sentry Box brake van to go with the bug boxes. The kit went together well, but I felt the need to detail it and to replace the rear handrail with one fabricated from piano wire and strip so it is more robust.
The vacuum brake pipes, setter and vacuum gauge are also additions, clearly visible in the prototype as currently running:
That makes a nice model, built with the care I expect from you. I started with IP but found them rather rudimentary – but I think they have upped their game in recent years? I’m still pondering some additional passenger stock here – but I see we’re going to get Brandbright back in due course, so may hang on a while.
Happy New Year to you!

The IP kits are a good starting point and the laser cutting gives really nice detailing, so it is really a question of looking at photos of the prototypes and deciding how much additional detail to add. It would be great if the new Brandbright produced a bowsider kit – that’s the obvious hole in the range.
